No dangerous substances or articles, explosives or weapons may be brought onto the port other than as expressly permitted by
The Harbour Master must be given advance notice of entry of all dangerous substances to the Port of Southampton.
This permission must be granted between 6 months and 24 hours prior to the vessels arrival to the port limits, or goods arrival to the docks estate.
Explicit permission is required, via the form below, for the following dangerous goods classes:
1.1: Substances and articles which have a mass explosion hazard |
1.2: Substances and articles which have a projection hazard but not a mass explosion hazard |
1.3: Substances and articles which have a fire hazard and either a minor blast hazard or a minor projection hazard or both |
1.4: Substances and articles which present no significant hazard; only a small hazard in the event of ignition or initiation during transport with any effects largely confined to the package |
1.5: Very insensitive substances which have a mass explosion hazard |
2.3: Toxic gases |
6.2: Infectious substances |
7: Radioactive Material |
9: Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles |

Additional Information
Vessels carrying dangerous or polluting substances that are not outlined above must supply these lists, in full, with the vessel booking. This is acceptable via CERS Workbooks and Dangerous Goods Manifests.
Please be aware CERS Workbooks have a 250 line limit on dangerous goods notification, if this is exceeded a full manifest is to be sent with the vessel booking.

Name and call sign of vessel
County in which vessel is regestered
Overall length, draught and beam of vessel
Intended destination within the Harbour Area
ETA Nab or East Lepe (via West Solent)
Last Port of Call
Correct technical name of dangerous substances (Proper Shipping Name)
UN number
Quantity of each substance (Net explosive quantity NEQ)
Classification
Specification of Loading/Discharge or Transit
For Tankers
Is the vessel fitted with an inert gas system and is this fully operational
Whether the cargo tanks have an atmosphere which has been rendered non-flammable
