BOLLARD PULL REQUEST
The testing of tug engines and bollard pull requires permission from the Harbour Master.
This includes pushing up against the quay with force and bollard pull testing.
Such permission can be granted to vessels approved for Ship Assist Towage as per LNtM. Other vessels will only be granted following review of a Risk Assessment & Method Statement (RAMS).
Operators will be liable for undertaking visual pre-use checks ahead of any force applied to a quay wall or bollard, as such the operator will be liable for any damage that occurs to ABP infrastructure during such testing.
Tests involving pushing against a quay wall must be conducted in the Western Docks at 2 hours either side of low water. The Western Docks, 101 – 109 berths are large gravity monoliths with integral copes which can withstand these tests.
