The Port of Southampton is renowned for handling cruise ships and continuous investment ensures Southampton remains the cruise capital of the UK.

Southampton offers the cruise industry an ideal location with:

  • Protected deep-water location on the UK’s South Coast.
  • Only 70 miles from London and convenient for the international airports at Heathrow, Gatwick, Bournemouth and Southampton.
  • Excellent inland road and rail connections to all parts of the UK. Competitive pricing. A full pilotage service.
  • Well-established support companies offering a full range of services, including:

Shore-side power, cranage, water and telecommunications.

A selection of modern high-capacity tugs.

The replenishment of ships’ stores, bunkers and removal of waste and garbage.

Baggage-handling, including trained First Aid staff, are provided by experienced, independent stevedores.

  • Passenger terminals are equipped with baggage, Customs & Immigration facilities, refreshment areas and other passenger amenities, and can handle full embarkation and disembarkation for the largest cruise vessels.
  • Average clearance times for disembarkation of up to 2,000 passengers is two hours. Special arrangements can be made for express disembarkation and for VIP passengers.
  • A special coach pick-up area for calling cruises is provided.
  • Extensive car parking is available adjacent to all terminals. In addition, there is a car collection and delivery service available, as well as car-hire facilities.
  • Boat trains, including special steam locomotives, regularly call directly alongside the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal.
  • 24-hour uniformed security is provided throughout the port at all times, both at dock entrances and by regular patrols.
  • A special high-security restricted zone operates around the vessels, in accordance with the UK Aviation and Maritime Security Act 1990.
